Auto News for June 7 – GM Vote of Confidence in Barra

 General Motors shareholders have overwhelmingly voted down a proposal to create a two-tier stock structure at the automaker, a move seen as a vote of confidence in CEO Mary Barra. Barra and GM leadership fought the proposal from Greenlight Capital.

 At Tesla’s annual meeting, a proposal for the annual election of the board of directors was defeated. They will continue to face balloting every three years instead. A group of pension funds introduced the matter arguing board members are too closely aligned to Elon Musk.

 Musk told the gathering Tesla may need to build at least three more manufacturing plants to keep up with future demand, according to the Detroit Free Press. The lower priced Model 3 is scheduled to hit the market this summer with a crossover, the Model Y, coming in 2019. and Parents magazine have named the 10 Best Family Cars for 2017. They said the winners offer the best combination of value, performance, safety and features.

 The winners are the Chevrolet Bolt, Kia Soul, Subaru Crosstrek, Honda Civic and CR-V, Hyundai Sonata, Mazda CX-5, Subaru Outback, Chrysler Pacifica, Toyota Highlander.

 Edmunds said the winners offer a wide range of choices that will suit a variety of budget and tastes.

 Car magazine’s web site,, has an excellent spy picture of the Jeep Wrangler pick-up truck. Think of the current Jeep with a truck bed added to the rear. The spy picture is that of a four door model.
