McLaren has released some details of the 570GT MSO concept car that will make its debut at the Pebble Beach Concors this weekend. The titanium exhaust system is 30 percent lighter than standard equipment and is said to deliver “a progressively richer and more characterful tone” at a lower rev level. Overhead there is an Electro-Chromic Roof that can be adjusted through five points from almost clear to a rich, dark tint. Oh, and if that exhaust system were not enough, there is a 12-speaker Bowers and Wilkins audio system. The 570GT is “the most road based McLaren to date with a focus on day to day usability,” the company said.

Your humble auto writer had a chance yesterday to become acquainted with the 2017 Nissan Armada and a very luxurious Titan pickup. Both were a dream to drive, but I fell heavily for the pickup and its “King of the Road” driving stance. Look for more details in this very space, very soon.

1st Camaro

More on that very first Camaro ever built. The Historic Vehicle Association is displaying the car in an illuminated glass showcase during the famous Woodward Dream Cruise in Detroit. The car will be added to the National Historic Vehicle Register program, only the 15th vehicle on the list.

Reading about all the advanced systems that autonomous cars will use and the high tech traffic control systems that local governments may institute to keep things running smoothly in heavily trafficked urban area, I could not keep on thought out of my mind – What would George Orwell, the author of “1984,” have thought about all this?  Not that these systems, when they are perfected, are going to be all bad, but just something to think about.

A British auto auction firm is celebrating 70 years of sales. During that time, BCA has auctioned Lady Diana’s Austin Metro and the great train robbers’ getaway car.

BF Goodrich will launch an online tire purchasing program in September, initially in the greater Charlotte, N.C. area. It will then expand nationally in phases later in the year. Customers will be able to schedule an installation appointment on line.
