Auto News for Jan. 11

The North American International Auto Show in Detroit

A jury of auto writers has named the redesigned Honda Civic the North American Car of the Year and the Volvo XC90 as the Truck/Sport Utility of the year.

The Honda beat out the Mazda MX-5 Miata, (my pick), and the Chevy Malibu. The Volvo topped the Honda Pilot and the Nissan Titan XD pickup. A group of 57 auto writers from the U.S. and Canada test a long list of vehicles and eventually narrow down their choices.

Last year, the Ford F-150 was named Truck of the Year, while the Volkswagen Golf/GTI was Car of the Year.
