Add two more gears to GM’s pickup trucks for 2015. It will put an eight speed automatic in the Chevy Silverado, GMC Sierra and its SUV cousins that have the big 6.2-liter V8. The goal, of course, is improved fuel economy with EPA ratings coming closer to the truck’s introduction.

Kia is recalling about 52,000 cars to fix a potential steering problem. They are the Kia Soul built in 2013 and through Jan. 17, 2014. Kia said a pinion gear in the steering assembly can loosen and cause a loss of steering. It said there are no reports of crashes or injuries from the malfunction.

By the way, the Census Bureau said it believes the first car to be stolen was a Peugeot belonging to a French aristocrat in Paris way back in 1896. It makes one wonder when the number of cars stolen exceeded the number of horses stolen.
