Auto News For July 7

Welcome back and I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday weekend. Here is what’s happening under the hood and on the roads.

Have a gander at the new VW Passat. It was displayed at the VW design center in Potsdam Germany and will make its public debut at the Paris Auto Show in October. VW said “Everything in this car is new: its design, technologies and engines.” Fuel economy is said to be increased 20 percent helped by lighter weight. Despite exterior dimensions that are marginally smaller, VW maintains that there is more legroom and headroom inside and increased luggage space. More to come when we get closer to the Paris Show.

Acura said its 2015 TLX performance sedan will arrive at dealers nationwide next month and carry an MSRP of $30,995. The top of the line 3.5-liter, 290 horsepower V6 will be mated to an all-new 9 speed automatic transmission with all-wheel drive available.

Ford announced a $1 million dollar donation to the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. It is slated to open in 2016 in Washington, D.C.

Audi has released its prices for 2015 models and the line is topped by the R8 V10 Coupe S tronic at $182,500. At the other end of the line is the A3 sedan with the 1.8-liter 4 turbo at $29,900. It is worth noting that Audi has posted 42 consecutive months of record sales. The 2014 R8 is pictured.
